My daddy took the picture of Mama with my brother and me on the beach in Gulf Shores in 1964 or therabouts. Mama was always the happiest when she was at the beach. During the 1940s she lived with her sister in Foley and we loved to hear her tell stories of riding on the beach in a WWII surplus Jeep and going to the old casino near where the State Park pier is now.
This is our first Mother's Day without Mama. She passed away last January after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
I think I'll go to the beach on the Mother's Day and look for sand dollars like she always did.
